Truly "basement tapes", Kids After Dark's first four songs were recorded in a basement on a cassette recorder. The original lineup was to be guitar, bass, drums, and French horn. On the day of the scheduled recording, the horn player quit, so Johnny (the bassist) played on organ the horn lines Hall composed for each song. For the rearrangement of the folk song, "Satisfied," Hall rounded up children from the neighborhood for the recording. This raw tape was used to book the first gigs.
